What brands ask for

Every creator has a number. Almost nobody knows theirs.

Brands stopped buying reach. They buy engagement — and the figure is one you are expected to produce on request, in a conversation you did not schedule, about work you have already done.

Your free report gives you your engagement rate, the benchmark for your category, and the multiple between them.

The gap

Know your number before a brand asks for it

The ask is specific and it arrives mid-conversation. You already know what you posted and roughly what each one did — but a total of your own is not the figure, and it cannot tell you whether the figure is a good one for the kind of thing you make. A number with nothing beside it is not a result.

what you already have

“Tuesday did better than Monday.”

A real fact, and a useful one. It is also entirely your own history, and your own history cannot tell you what an ordinary week looks like for the kind of thing you make.

what the report adds

Where your recent posts sit against the category you post in.

Not a grade and not a leaderboard. A position: how far above or below the benchmark for your category your recent posts are actually landing.

How you stack up

Your engagement rate, with your category’s benchmark next to it

Not a score invented for the occasion. Each row is one platform: the engagement rate your recent posts earned there, the benchmark for the kind of thing you make, and the multiple between them — so you get the number and what it means in one look.

  1. your engagement rate

What your recent posts actually earned on that platform, computed the way that platform’s published benchmark computes it — so your figure and the benchmark’s are the same sum, not two sums that happen to share a name.

  2. the figure you are measured against

The benchmark for the kind of thing you make, where one is published. Not every category has its own — and where the number behind a row is a platform-wide fill or a neighbouring category’s, the card marks that row as an estimate rather than letting it read as certain.

  3. the distance between them

Shown beside the other two rather than left for you to work out, so the row answers “is that good?” in the same glance it answers “what is it?” — and where the gap would round away to nothing, the row drops it and shows your figure and the benchmark alone.

Your own row needs a few measurable posts behind it. Before that, the card shows the bands for your category with no figure of yours in them, or an example row clearly marked as a sample — and on some accounts it says only that your number will appear once there is enough to measure. None of those is your number, and none of them is dressed up as one.

The turn

A number is not an instruction

A rate on its own tells you where you stand and nothing about what to do on Monday. So the report does not stop at the number.

It puts your own posts up beside it — your strongest and your weakest, as real posts with their own figures, not a summary of them. That is the part you can act on: the standing tells you there is room, and the posts are where you look for it.

That list fills later than the comparison does — your standing can be drawn from fewer posts than the list needs. Until it fills, the panel shows example posts, marked as a sample, and says what it is still waiting for.

the point of the whole thing

You will probably find at least one number you did not expect. That is the point — you cannot move a number you have never seen.

It costs no money and no card. It does take a connection: a short form, a key in your inbox, and read access to one account so there is something real to measure.

If it reads low

Your number may well land below the benchmark

The benchmark is someone else’s measurement of someone else’s sample, and this page is not here to promise you the flattering side of it. A page that did would be lying to everyone it was wrong about, and they would find out the moment the card loaded.

If your row lands under it, you have just learned the most useful thing on the report: there is room, and your own posts underneath are where you look for it. That is a worse feeling and a better month.

And it is a read, not a document. There is nothing here to export and nothing to send anyone. Knowing the number before you are asked for it is the whole of what this does — the answer arrives in your own words, not as a file.
